Brilliant, brilliant breakdown. Your quote from Nancy Meyer struck me; classic silhouettes that remain timeless. Of course the costumes are still relevant and inspirational. But rather than a boring sort of timeless there is a feminine touch from the pastels or a masculine vibe from the sporty moments; it’s proof to me that we can have wardrobes that can age well while expressing our POVs!!

Thank you, Kelly!! I think they did such a good job expressing each character’s individuality while remaining classic, which is definitely a personal style goal of mine!

This was SUCH a fun little escape - love all the ideas you pulled! We are all craving this level of nostalgia and easy dressing. Also I love that you barely touched on Meredith- she seems the obvious fashion choice in the movie but actually all the other characters have so much more to offer!

We are all totally craving nostalgia and ease in this unsettled time! You hit the nail on the head, as usual, Sogole! I think that’s why all these mall brands are coming back too, they offer a true sense of comfort (and ideally, quality). Meredith is such an interesting character! I’m not as drawn to her outfits, because they feel the most costume-y to me, but maybe I need to rethink that?? Because they are very true to her personality. Especially with all the black and white, very 1950s, which makes sense for her. I might need to do a part 2!

Honestly, maybe my style words are just Hallie, Annie and Nick?

OK, I ate this one up! So much nostalgia + fun BTS tidbits + a ton of fashion inspo - I loved it! The Parent Trap was my favourite movie to watch with my mom growing up, and now I've been watching it with my daughter, who also loves it. Never really paid close attention to the wardrobe before, so I love this breakdown and your thoughts on the intentional styling choices. There were so many classic pieces and looks I would definitely wear today (can't believe that barn jacket on little Annie!) x

Thank you, Maria!! Isn’t it the best when something from our childhood holds up for our kids? I kinda feel like there is shockingly little? Like maybe this movie and the magic 8 ball, lol. I was also surprised at how relevant so many of the outfits felt for today, and also how well they captured the heart and storytelling of the movie. What we all wish for our clothes! So glad you enjoyed!

Ugh thank you for doing my favorite movie of all time justice! Over the summer I also wrote about the relevance of The Parent Trap and its summer camp vibes. To this day, Hallie is still my #1 style and sass inspo. So I truly enjoyed this deep dive into fashion in The Parent Trap, as well as the character/plot analysis you inferred from their styles.

I loved reading this!! Thank you so much for featuring my newsletter at the end; that genuinely made me smile🥰🥰🥰 I feel like I'm a combination of all of their styles, but I recently bought a sweater with a bib collar like the yellow one Halle wears in the film when she's pretending to be Annie, so I'm definitely dressing a little like that at the moment!

I loved discovering your newsletter! It’s so great! That sweater is such a mood, I love that you found a similar style! I’m definitely a Halle but I’ve never met a bow I didn’t like!

I read to rewatch this with my older child, stat! It was my favorite as a kid (I also love the original). The clothes are so brilliantly chosen throughout - thanks for breaking everything down like this. Such a delightful read! Related, sort of- I rewatched Meet the Parents recently and was SHOOK by how not dated the clothes look. I wanted to screenshot everything too haha.

Maybe we need to do Meet The Parents next?!? It’s a real skill to nail these timeless looks! Definitely do a rewatch - my boys are 8, 6, and 2 and all loved it (well the 2 year old kept saying “no mooch! No mooch” when anyone went in for a kiss, lol) - the whole thing holds up, including the outfits!

HAhhaa that’s amazing re: your two year old. Mine are almostttt 3 and 6 so maybe I’ll give it a try for everyone! I think my older one would love the twins scheming aspect haha.

Yes! That was the hook for them as well! (Honestly Alone is their favorite movie bar non for the “tricks.”)

Oh same, Home Alone was on repeat all through December. We even got really into listening to the soundtrack. Speaking of, Parent Trap has an excellent soundtrack! Putting it on now!
